I’m interested in understanding how mechanical forces can influence characteristics of cells. As Xavier Trepat had once said, “Considering only genes and biomolecules is like trying to write a book with only half the letters of the alphabet.” This has resonated with me greatly and is currently on a post-it note at my desk. In my free time, I like watching anime, gaming and trying out new restaurants. Or just go for a siesta.

Works with: G. K. Ananthasuresh (Mechanical Engineering) and Saumitra Das (MCB)

Project title: Mechanobiology of liver cirrhosis

My research involves understanding the mechanisms and implications of phenotypic heterogeneity in biological systems. Specifically, I am working on understanding how cancer cells undergoing metastasis maintain a balance between being able to dynamically change their properties (phenotypic plasticity) and being able to retain these properties despite substantial fluctuations in the environment when needed (phenotypic robustness). Outside research, I like teaching, watching anime (Watashiwa nihongo de hanasemasu!) and singing.

Works with: Dr. Mohit Kumar Jolly, Cancer Systems Biology Lab

Project title: Design principles of phenotypic plasticity and robustness in gene regulatory networks underlying cancer metastasis

I have a keen interest for peering into all the goings-on of a cell. I joined BSSE with a desire to do inter-disciplinary research for answering questions on intracellular organisation and dynamics. Specifically, my work revolves around understanding how phagosomal maturation of synthetic polymeric targets proceeds in macrophages.

I am also a dancer, and I have trained, performed, and choreographed in multiple styles over the years. Other things I am passionate about include the performing arts and (amateur) observational astronomy.

Works with: Dr. Siddharth Jhunjhunwala, ImmunoEngineering Laboratory

Project title: Intracellular tracking of polymeric particles post phagocytosis

Works with: Dr. Siddharth Jhunjhunwala, Immunoengineering lab

Project title: Identification of signals for in vitro differentiation of T follicular helper cells

I am a PhD student in the CSB lab. Both my bachelor’s and master’s were in the area of Biotechnology. My interests involve an intersection between Biology and Mathematics. As a result, my research revolves around understanding biological systems from a mathematical perspective.

Works with: Mohit Kumar Jolly, Cancer Systems Biology Lab

Project title: Dynamical systems approach to elucidate cellular plasticity in carcinoma metastasis

I am a mechanical engineer who has ventured into my childhood interest in understanding biology. I work on engineering novel platforms to study host-pathogen dynamics and disease biology. Outside the lab, I find joy in discovering new places to eat, reading, trekking, and playing hockey.

Works with: Dr. Rachit Agarwal, Drug Delivery Lab

Project title: Engineering an in vitro 3-dimensional (3D) necrotic tuberculosis granuloma to study host-pathogen interaction and drug efficacy
