Title: Dynamical Complexity in Microbial Matter
Abstract: Microorganisms inhabit highly fluctuating natural environments and survive in a low-nutrient resource bath. It is now well-recognized that nutrient exchanges among microbes play a vital role in their survival. The existence of such exchanges raises fundamental questions about the dynamics of these interactions.
In this talk, he will explore experimentally and theoretically a realization of such interactions in which active bacteria dynamically respond to the oxygen produced by immotile green algae through photosynthesis. Even in this simplest mixture of active-passive suspensions, we find complex dynamics involving nutrient exchanges.
Toward the end of the talk, he will briefly discuss our investigations on the collective behaviour of a living fluidic network, which presents another fascinating example of dynamical complexity in microbial matter.
About the Speaker: Dr. Praneet Prakash received PhD from the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, and is currently a postdoctoral researcher at the School of Physical Sciences, University of Cambridge. His research interests include Microbial Biophysics, Biofluids, and Complex Living Systems.
