Alakesh
I am from Lucknow and is known for my fun-loving nature. After completing my B.Tech degree from IIT Guwahati, I went on to pursue my interests in the field of immunology at the Max Planck Institute in Freiburg, Germany. During my time there, I developed a strong foundation in the subject and went on to pursue a PhD in BSSE under the supervision of Dr. Siddharth Jhunjhunwala. My research focuses on the intersection of systems immunology and translational immunoengineering, with the ultimate goal of improving our understanding of immune-mediated diseases and finding ways to mitigate their impact.”
Works with: Dr Siddharth Jhunjhunwala
Project title: Delineating neutrophil responses in multiple inflammatory conditions
Harsh Chhajer
Scientific interests mainly revolve around mathematical modelling of biological systems. I work in the field of virology, but am keenly interested in evolution biology and bioinformatics too.
Non-scientific includes (but not limited to) sports and watching stand-up and movies. In gymkhana you can find me running or playing hockey, I like to swim too. Also a fan of sci-fi (fantasy), action, thrillers and comedy genres in movies.
Works with: Dr. Rahul Roy
Project title: Quantitative analysis of cellular life cycle of +RNA viruses
Pallavi Raj Sharma
I studied biotechnology at the undergraduate level where I developed an inclination towards research. In BSSE, I am working with polymeric particulate systems to improve drug delivery to tuberculosis infected cells in the lungs. Outside of lab, I enjoy strolling through the campus and solving puzzles.
Works with: Dr. Rachit Agarwal
Project title: Dry powder micro-carriers for treatment of Tuberculosis
Parul Yadav
I have been a constant traveler since childhood and did my schooling in several KV’s in India. I was always interested in biomedical engineering and did B.Tech and M.Tech in the subject. Post this; I joined the bioengineering program at IISc. I loves working with biomaterials and is currently a joint student addressing better model systems to study aging using various scaffold fabrication techniques. Besides research, you will find me enjoying my walks/runs in the beautiful IISc campus, exploring restaurants in Bangalore, and living my life to the fullest!
Works with: Prof. Kaushik Chatterjee and Prof. Deepak K Saini
Project title: Understanding cellular senescence in three dimensions

I am interested in colorful, gray, or binary images of microbes. I find these pictures as beautiful as any artwork by an impressionist such as Gustave Courbet. My desire to understand the mysterious world of microbes never quenches. Therefore, I use microscopy, image processing, and molecular biology tools to see the unseen.
Works with: Dr. Varsha Singh (MRDG) & Dr. Aloke Kumar (ME)
Project title: Experimental and computational approaches to understand collective behaviors of bacterial pathogen Pseudomonas aeruginosa
Neha Paddillaya
Bioengineer with a focus on the mechanobiology of cells under shear. Through my research, I have identified, innovated, and implemented technological solutions to probe mechanotransduction and cell-substrate interactions under shear.
Works with: Prof. Namrata Gundiah (Biomechanics Lab), Prof. Deepak Saini (MRDG), Prof. Paturu Kondaiah
Project title: Cell-substrate interactions under shear
